,Sister Wives Season 19 Episode 2 Recap: The Battle at Flagstaff

It’s obvious to viewers watching the new season of Sister Wives that there has been time travel.

In the show’s premiere episode, producers revealed that the season was showcasing the events of late 2022. This was to address the lack of conversation about the death of Kody and Janelle’s son, Garrison.

However, if you want to know about the issues between Kody and Janelle, the second episode covers it all.

We meet Jenelle in Montana with her daughter Maddie and her husband Caleb. The young couple is looking to buy some property and it looks like Jenelle is planning on moving there with them.

This comes as a huge surprise to the rest of the Brown family — both pleasant and unpleasant, depending on who you ask.

Christine is thrilled at the idea that Janelle is finally leaving Arizona and starting her own life. Robyn is devastated at the idea that Janelle is the latest family member to run off to the mountains. And Kody?

“Kody and I don’t communicate at all. Our relationship is over, but we both still live in Flagstaff,” Jenelle explains.

“I don’t trust him anymore, so I don’t give him any information,” Cody explains.

Why is there a war going on between Kody and Janelle?

Each of Kody’s ex-wives has a reason for wanting a divorce.

For Christine, it was to reclaim her independence. For Mary, it was to escape a man who showed no interest in her or her faith.

For Janelle, it was driven by his kids. Viewers have watched as Kody’s relationship with most of his kids has deteriorated, including his eldest sons with Janelle, Gabe, and Garrison.

After years of tension and drama, Janelle has finally had enough, but as she explained in the episode, she still hopes Kody will come forward for their kids.

Janelle suggests that, “Kody could still mend his relationship with his kids,” but that doesn’t seem likely to happen.

Though Garrison and Gabe haven’t appeared yet this season, the couple’s eldest daughter, Madison, has been a main focus.

Maddie, “an extreme mom” according to Jenelle, has firmly sided with her mother in the divorce case and won’t give Kody an inch until he changes his attitude a bit.

In return, Cody calls Maddie a “gossip fish.” Wonder where she learned that.

“I have encouraged Kody to pursue any type of relationship he has with his kids,” Robyn said in her statement. “But I feel like it’s been a two-way street. Maddie also hasn’t been able to contact her father.”

The Fate of Coyote Pass

Much of the episode focused on the property the family purchased after leaving Las Vegas. Coyote Pass in Flagstaff, Arizona was a refuge for the Brown family.

Both wives could build their own homes and set down their roots there forever.

But then the family broke up, and now, those left are eager to be bought out of Coyote Pass to start their next chapter.

Especially Janelle. But Kody flatly refused to play ball.

“We will pay off the property when the time comes, and I’m not giving you any details about what I’m doing or whatever because I’m tired of revealing information through rumors about our broken family,” Kody said in his confessional.

It’s his inability to act nice that prompts Janelle to tell Christine she’s ready to hire a lawyer. Since they were never legally married, Janelle never had to go through the same process of dividing property. Now, she has to find a way to get Kody to give her what’s rightfully hers so their marriage can truly be over.

One person in particular is deeply upset by this situation: Robin.

No, not Kodi! Why would Kodi?

“I don’t know how to get over this. I would be devastated if Janelle left,” Robin says.

Well, prepare to be disappointed!

Kody Criticizes His Sister Wives Again

“The thing is: I’m not willing to take the blame for things that my wife or ex-wife is going to sit down and tell them I did.”

Cody started off the episode with something like this, which was his first sentence in the confessional.

At the end of the episode, claiming he does not see himself as a “victim”, he expresses sadness that his family has kicked him out of his own “club”, while Merri declares she wants release.

In the family’s religion, “liberation” is like a spiritual divorce. Without it, as Mary explains, she would be “tied to him forever.”

By the way, it’s a good thing he found one, as while Kody laments his wives’ rebellion, he actually says he was “bored” with Meri.

But more than that, Kody has claimed for perhaps the first time that he never planned on leaving any of his wives, including Meri.

“I’m not playing the victim card. I was never going to abandon them,” Kody insisted.

“The three of us, Christine, Janelle, and I decided to leave me at home.”

If the term sounds strange to longtime viewers, Kody tries to explain that according to the rules of his church, a man cannot leave his marriage or request a release. Only a wife can do that. So, if he’s following the rules of the church, he’s locked up, no matter how he feels.

“All I’m saying is that it is the way it was and I would never leave them, no matter how much I loved them,” he said. “And I may have made choices that may have caused us to drift apart, but they eventually moved on.”

Well, can you blame them for saying such things?
