Sabrina Carpenter Comes Up With Shade for Mariah Carey’s Christmas Crown!

Please, please, please — tell us if Sabrina Carpenter beat Mariah Carey?

Because that’s what we feel!

Now, just because Sabrina Carpenter’s music includes some of this summer’s most popular songs, that doesn’t mean she’ll go into hibernation when the seasons change.

This winter, she’ll host a variety concert on Netflix. No less a big holiday special.

but in the promotion A Fuckable Christmas with Sabrina CarpenterLooks like she just threw a little shade at one of the biggest stars of all time. You probably know her best as the Queen of Christmas…

Netflix chooses Sabrina Carpenter as its holiday headliner

We know the special event will feature “unexpected duets and comedy guests.”

In addition to unknown guests, Sabrina will also perform her own music.

Sabrina Carpenter has a holiday EP, PrinterWhile it’s not as long as their full album, this collection of music should be more palatable than the EP’s name suggests.

She will also perform classic songs from the Christmas season. Netflix may bill this as a “holiday” variety special, but although there are many holidays in the next few months, the title makes it seem like this is really about Christmas. One especially.

“The holidays have always been very special to me,” Sabrina Carpenter said in a statement. “I’m excited to be doing my own take on a classic holiday variety show — combining my love of music and comedy to create something that’s special to me.”

So where does the sympathy for Mariah Carey come from?

As you can see in Netflix’s teaser for Sabrina Carpenter’s special, the video clearly features Mariah Carey — or at least, references her.

This photo is reminiscent of Mariah Carey’s classic “All I Want for Christmas Is You” outfit. It’s basically a fake costume, with Sabrina Carpenter shocking people.

This might anger Sabrina Carpenter (no matter how inappropriate) or Netflix itself. But most people probably won’t be offended by this homage.

For years, Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” has been the harbinger of the entire holiday season. And we do mean the holiday season — no matter what holiday you celebrate between Halloween and New Year’s Day, Mariah Carey’s music is sure to be playing.

Mariah did something that was almost unthinkable: She created a holiday classic in the modern era. A lot of Christmas songs are so old that they either have terrible values or cultural references that need to be explained. “All I Want for Christmas Is You” came out in 1994.

Obviously, other music stars have performed catchy Christmas tunes as well. But even if I personally Enjoying Lady Gaga’s “Christmas Tree” and Guther and the Sunshine Girls’ “Christmas Song,” we can all admit that Mariah’s bop is on a whole other level.

Did Netflix miss the target?

Whenever someone looks like Mariah Carey, whether it’s Sabrina Carpenter or someone else, they run the risk that it could blow up in their face. Mariah has faced real scandals and has made poor decisions at times, but a lot of people love and admire her. (Plus, sometimes her judgment isn’t so bad)

We don’t think Netflix or Sabrina Carpenter meant any disrespect towards Mariah Carey. If anything, it’s a nod to Mariah effectively being her boss for a few months of the year.

We hope Mariah loves this compliment. Also, she will get a royalty check as her song will be streamed all over the world in a few months.
