It’s weird to pass on your child,” Kody shared in an intimate interview four days before the premiere of the latest season of Sister Wives,

He admitted that his son’s suicide “still comes as a shock”, People Magazine How he has been coping over the last six months.

“This wave of grief is different from any other wave of grief I’ve felt when my best friend or relative passed away. It’s different. And it’s different because of the idea that it’s inconsolable – the future we lost with him.”

Garrison was one of Kody’s 18 children, whom he shares with his current wife Robyn, as well as his ex-wives Christine, Meri, and Janelle, who was the boy’s birth mother.

Fans of the show have been upset with Kody for years, as he has a rocky relationship with several of his kids, including Garrison.

In this regard, Kody admitted in the interview that his relationship with his son “definitely could have been better.”

Cody and Garrison’s complicated relationship and shifting the blame

“We could have talked more,” Cody said of his bond with his son, referring to himself and Garrison.

“I would get messages, things like that, and we, looking back, we could have done a lot more. And it was almost like — I’m busy with my life, she’s busy with her life, and when we connect, we’ll connect.”

Cody continued to hint in interviews that the feud between them was a matter of shared blame. Though he never fully took responsibility for the rift in their relationship — which fans online have called him out for — he consistently admitted that he underestimated how much time he would get with Garrison.

“It was like we always had time. It was like it was the convenience of time that I felt I had,” he said. “Looking back, it would have been more about meeting and connecting on a regular basis.”

Kody expresses his “regret” over son’s death

He added that Garrison’s death has changed Cody “irrevocably”.

“I can’t go back to where I was. I can’t accept the fact that she’s not here.”

Reflecting on his time with his son, Cody tried to remember the thing he would miss most about his son.

“He was planning for the future. He always wanted to tell a story, some adventure. He was always either cracking a joke or wanting to talk about some adventure.”

Now, there will be no more thrilling experiences for this adorable young man loved by his family, friends and fans.

In the end, Cody said that his “only regret” when he looks back is that he wishes he had “taken advantage of the time” he spent with Garrison

“I want to go to dinner again. I want to sit down. I want to have a beer. I want her to try to make me laugh because that was kind of the same thing. The only regret is, oh my god, I’d rather do that more often,” he says.

“The only regret is that you didn’t do anything. You didn’t take enough time.”
