Steel dynamics (NASDAQ: STLD) said Thursday it has asked the U.S. Department of Commerce and the U.S. International Trade Commission to impose anti-dumping duties on imports of corrosion-resistant flat-rolled steel, saying increased imports have hurt the domestic steel industry.
The company Such duties should apply to imports from Australia, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, the Netherlands, South Africa, Taiwan, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and Vietnam, as well as countervailing duties against imports from Brazil, Canada, Mexico and Vietnam.
Imports of corrosion-resistant flat-rolled steel from the 10 participating countries rose to nearly 2 million tons in the first half of this year from less than 1.25 million tons a year earlier, weighing on volume, prices and profits for the U.S. steel industry, the company said.
Subject to initiation, Steel Dynamics (STLD) said it expects to have preliminary determinations on subsidies later this year and on dumping early next year, with final resolutions from both agencies completed by October 2025.
