Just a few weeks after Amber Portwood got engaged to Gary Waite, we can now confirm the following:
Amber Portwood is no longer engaged to Gary Waite.
An insider tells US Weekly that the veteran Teen Mom star has ended her relationship with her short-term fiancé after Waithe disappeared for several days.
“They have decided it’s over between them and their engagement is called off,” a source told the tabloid late Tuesday night. They added about Amber and Gary:
“They have a lot to overcome to move forward together.”
The unnamed spy said there has been “somewhat of a reconciliation” for the MTV personality, and insisted the former lovers have talked and Waits is “not forgetting her.”
Shortly after people learned about Portwood’s engagement, we also learned that Amber and Gary had gotten into some sort of altercation while attending Amber’s brother’s wedding in North Carolina.
After this, Waite disappeared.
“I’m worried … he’s missing right now,” Portwood told her social media followers at the time.
“No one has found him yet or heard anything about him. I am trying my best not to think bad. I haven’t eaten anything [sic] In three days. I slept maybe an hour.”
The Bryson City Police Department confirmed via Facebook that Gary was missing and later reported that he had been found.
However, no other details were provided.
Portwood herself has not yet confirmed that their engagement is over. However…
“Amber took off the engagement ring and it’s the best thing ever,” the insider told US Weekly.
“She’s sad and she cares about him, but she’s willing to see that he’s not the right guy for her. She wants to be with someone who will fully accept her.”
Portwood was arrested for domestic violence in 2019 and has had run-ins with the law on multiple occasions; she does not have custody of her son as a result.
This history also appears to have played a role in the dissolution.
“Gary’s family was searching for him online and looking into his past and nothing they saw online was true,” the insider added. “And that was hard for Amber because she was trying so hard to forget it and move on.”
Amber was first engaged to Matt Baier and then to Gary Shirley, but both times, her marriage could not happen.
She has five-year-old son James with ex-husband Andrew Glennon and 15-year-old daughter Leah with Shirley.
In January, a source said Portwood and Waithe connected on a dating app a few months ago and had been seeing each other ever since.
“They’ve been taking time to get to know each other, but it’s getting serious now,” the person said at the time.
