Deon and Karen Derrico are going their separate ways.
Last weekend, TMZ confirmed that the main cast members of the TLC reality show Doubling Down With the Derricos have finalized their divorce … with a judge approving their papers on June 6.
“We are united in our commitment to raising our 14 beautiful children — their well-being is our priority,” Dion and Karen said in a statement Saturday.
“We thank everyone for their understanding and support as we move forward for the well-being of our family.”
Yes, Dion and Karen are parents to 14 children.
New episodes of the fifth season of his series are currently airing, with the next episode set to air on June 18.
The couple — who were married in 2005 — will split custody of their 13 minor children (they have one teenage child who is legally an adult); and Derrico has agreed to pay more than $1,100 a month for child care.
Meanwhile, Karen is responsible for paying her children’s medical insurance premiums.
To recap, the TLC personalities are parents to 13-year-old Derick … 12-year-old twins Dallas and Denver … 10-year-old quintuplets Deonni, Desean, Detain, Denico and Dariz … 6-year-olds Daiz and Dior … and 4-year-old triplets Dawsyn, De’Aren and Diaver.
As mentioned above, the eldest daughter Darian is 18 years old.
Despite this impressive number of sons and daughters, Karen recently told Entertainment Tonight in 2022 that she doesn’t think they’re done having kids.
“No, that diaper bag is not being hung up,” she said at the time. “I don’t feel complete. I don’t think we’re 100 percent complete.”
Dion echoed this sentiment, telling the same outlet:
,[I] Think about what you’ve built – I think about what we’ve built – in this house, the love, the amount of love, I could never get tired of it.”
Unfortunately, Karen suffered two miscarriages in late 2020 and late 2021.
The current season of Doubling Down With the Derricos has centered on the tension between Karen and Dion, as at one point, they argued over Darian’s decision to move across the country.
The former spouses are also worried about the condition of their new home and the education of their eldest daughter.
With the Season 5 finale set for July 2, new installments of Doubling Down with the Derricos air Tuesdays at 8/7c on TLC.
No announcement has yet been made about the future of the program.
Dion and Karen previously said they buy up to $3,500 in groceries per month and that it takes the whole family three hours to get ready each day.
and yet:
“I love the journey. I love breastfeeding. I love it all,” Karen told Us Weekly two years ago. “Even though I’m very high risk and have to be on bed rest, things like that, I still enjoy the process.”
For the record, based on these divorce documents, she is not pregnant at this time.
