Are Karl Urban and Keith Urban related? These Hollywood stars have more in common than just their last name.
One big difference between the pair? Their careers in the glitzy city.
Karl Urban is known for his film and television roles while Keith Urban is an award-winning country music artist.
But, do both Urbans share the same DNA? Let’s dig deeper.
Carl and Keith share more than just a town name
Karl, 52, and Keith, 56, also share the same homeland: New Zealand’s North Island.
“The Boys” star is originally from the country’s capital, Wellington, which is located in the southwest region at the bottom tip of the island. Keith is from Whangarei, which is located at the top of the island.
And, while it has nothing to do with kinship, both men have two children together. Keith, who married Nicole Kidman in 2006, has two daughters with the Australian actress: Sunday Rose, 15, and Faith, 13.
Carl has two sons with Natalie Wihongi: Hunter, 23, and Indiana, 18. Unfortunately, Carl and Natalie divorced in 2014 after ten years together.
Despite all these shared characteristics, Karl and Keith are not actually related in any way. It seems like this could be just one of a series of coincidences for the pair of celebs named “K.”
Two big differences between Carl and Keith
Fans of country singer Keith will know he is better known as an Australian star, having moved here from New Zealand at just two years old.
Another thing that’s keeping this couple from any potential relationship? Keith’s real last name is spelled differently: Urbahn.
Keith never talked about why he changed the spelling of his name, but some have speculated that it was to make the pronunciation easier to remember.
Karl Urban is an only child
Although Keith has a brother, Shane Urban, Carl has no siblings.
Karl’s parents were German immigrants living in New Zealand, where his mother’s work for a film production rental company helped foster his acting career. He also spoke about attending film screenings as a child during an interview.
“I was influenced not just by these films, but also by the culture of the crew and their interactions,” he told the NZ Herald in 2010. “I got hooked.”
Thankfully, everything worked out fine, and he now has 59 credits on his IMDb page and is also the star of the Amazon Prime original series “The Boys,” whose fourth season premiered on June 13.
