While Meghan Markle’s battle against the royal family garners the most press coverage, the Duchess’s seemingly never-ending war against her estranged half-sister is just as bonkers in every way.
It’s easy to see why the media likes to focus on battles that cast kings, dukes and other fancy Brits as the villains.
But Meghan’s American enemies are a more colourful, deranged bunch, and their efforts to bring her down are often schemes that Pinky and Brain will devise if someone spikes their water bottle with meth.
For example, Samantha Markle’s current lawsuit against Meghan.
As part of Sam’s ongoing effort to keep his death grip on Meghan’s coat, the elder Markle has sued her sister for defamation, alleging Meghan lied damagingly during her 2020 interview with Oprah Winfrey .
Basically, Meghan said she barely knows her half-sister, a claim that is clearly damaging to Sam’s career as the world’s leading Meghan expert.
Samantha will almost certainly lose (the judge has already described her case as “ripe for dismissal”), but since her main targets are relevant and embarrassing Meghan, in a sense, she can make that point in the trial. Wins by forcing her to go.
Hence, the latest development in the case is being considered as a victory for Meg and her legal team.
Sam is desperate to go over the “discovery” portion of the trial in the hope that Meghan will be forced to sit for a deposition.
(Said that depot almost certainly lives up to Media Circus Sam.)
Meanwhile, Meghan’s lawyers are trying to delay for as long as possible in the hope that the case will be over before any depositions are needed.
And according to a new report newsweekThe deadline for the next round of filings has been extended to July 3, which is great news for Team Markle.
“Defendant [Meghan] tells'[m]Most of the proposed non-party witnesses have nothing to do with the statements in dispute. [plaintiffs first amended complaint],'” reads an order from Magistrate Judge Thomas G. Wilson.
“Accordingly, since the defendant [Meghan] Says that the motion of the plaintiff is moot, it shall be rejected.
The adjournment makes it more likely that Meghan’s lawyers will have a response to their motion to dismiss the case before any statements are made.
From the outset, the defense has been arguing that removing their client would create an unnecessary farce.
The lawyers said in an earlier court filing:
“A statement by Mr Markle at this juncture, along with other findings, would be an unnecessary farce and a waste of the parties’ time, money and resources.”
So by July 3, either the case will be settled out of court, or Meghan will be bracing herself for another battle against her evil half-sister.
Either way, this will be a very important Independence Day in the perennial war between the Markles!
