“I never remember a run like that where the favorites were absolutely perfect with such a large number of games,” said BetMGM Chief Commercial Officer Jeff Stoneback. “Obviously, there have been times when all the favorites came before, but probably not 22 in a row.”
With the Stanley Cup playoffs kicking off in early May, playoff-contending teams are adjusting their lineups, while losing teams can play more inexperienced players with an eye to the future. This may explain why the favorites swept the weekend.
“It’s hard to explain,” said FOX Bet sports operator Olegs Nikolajevs. “And the scores were also insane: 9-1, 7-4 and 8-4 in one day (Saturday).”
Four teams — the Florida Panthers, St. Louis Blues, Toronto Maple Leafs and Buffalo Sabers — went 2-0 over the weekend. Home teams also went 16-6 in that span of time.
If you’re looking to get in on the NHL action, Nikolajevs said he likes another home team covering Monday night. He suggests betting a couple of bucks on the Vancouver Canucks (37-28-10, 84 points) getting 1.5 goals against the visiting Dallas Stars (43-27-5, 91 points), who begin a three-game road trip for Canada. .
