Allycia Hellen Rodrigues has long awaited her chance to finally return to the circle, a wait that ends at ONE Fight Night 8 on March 24.
Rodrigues has not fought since her ONE Championship debut in August 2020, when she dethroned Stamp Fairtex to become the ONE Atomweight Muay Thai World Champion.
After taking a few years away from the competition for the birth of her first child, Rodrigues has been growing excited to return and do what she does best.
Unfortunately, your wait has been extended. Originally scheduled to unify her division’s world titles with interim world champion Janet Todd at ONE on Prime Video on December 5, the fight was canceled at the last minute due to Todd testing positive for COVID-19.
Having to wait even longer for her return to the fight has only made Allycia Hellen Rodrigues even more motivated to put on a show at ONE Fight Night 8.
In a recent interview with ONE Championship, the world champion said:
“It’s been a long time since my last fight, so the desire to fight is getting stronger. And I try to put that desire more and more into each training session.
WATCH: Allycia Hellen Rodrigues dominates Stamp Fairtex like no other to win world title
The last time ONE Championship fans saw Allycia Hellen Rodrigues, she produced an incredible display to shock the world and dethrone Stamp Fairtex.
Stamp quickly rose to the top of the promotion by becoming a dual-sport world champion, holding the ONE atomicweight kickboxing and muay thai titles during her first year competing under the ONE banner.
After losing his world kickboxing championship to Janet Todd, the odds still looked heavily in Stamp’s favor for his muay thai competition with Rodrigues.
The first three rounds were very close, much to the surprise of the fans in attendance and those watching from home. But the biggest shock came when Allycia Hellen Rodrigues began to pull away from the defending champion in the fourth round, doing significant damage.
ONE Championship posted a clip of the fight on Instagram:
“Muay Thai Atomicweight World Champion Allycia Helen Rodrigues is FIERCE 🤯 The Brazilian forward defends her throne against Interim Queen Janet Todd on March 24 at ONE Fight Night 8 on Prime Video! 👑 @allycia_phuketfightclub”
While Stamp Fairtex’s performance wasn’t bad, Rodrigues was too dominant on the night. The Brazilian world champion continued to pick up her pace throughout the fight and eventually outpointed the Thai superstar.
