Cheteshwar Pujara’s incredible striking of 59 from 142 balls may not be enough to see India over the line in Indore. However, it delivered a moment that fans and probably even team management will remember for a long time.

Pujara is generally associated with playing shots that require sheer determination, as it only deepens and wears down the opposition. However, in the third Test against Australia in Indore on Thursday, Pujara came out and crushed Nathan Lyon in the middle of the deep wicket for a massive six.

Captain Rohit Sharma was a bit buoyant at first as he was frustrated with the batsmen blocking every pitch. He wanted them to show intention and Cheteshwar Pujara delivered with a huge six.

This brought a big smile to Rohit’s face and the crowd also cheered the veteran hitter for that shot.

Cheteshwar Pujara’s rearguard effort may not be enough for India

After conceding an 88-run first-innings lead to Australia, India needed a spirited second-innings batting performance to make the most of the situation. However, the top order faltered yet again as the hosts lost four wickets before they could take the lead.

Cheteshwar Pujara, the only standup batsman, scored a fighting half-century. He displayed the right combination of caution and aggression and provided a master class in hitting on a spin track.

Just when it looked like Pujara would hit to the brim, an incredible one-handed stun from Steve Smith saw him return to the arena. Perhaps something special was required to stop Pujara and that was probably the moment he could have sealed the game for the visitors.

Australia will come out to bat on the third day and will need just 76 runs to win. Only time will tell if another surprise awaits us.
