Steph Curry is currently out with injury, but that didn’t stop the Golden State Warriors superstar from making people smile. Curry went undercover to surprise a handful of Bay Area kids inside the Warriors Shop in Thrive City.
According to Brett Siegel of Sports Illustrated, Curry’s Eat Foundation. Learn. Play. partnered with Rakuten to give kids in East Oakland’s Black Cultural Area a moment to remember. The reigning Finals MVP wore a hat, fake wig and face mask as a disguise while working the counter.
Curry was given the name Larry, but the parents quickly realized they were dealing with a Warriors legend. He took off his costume and went to greet the children inside the store. Every kid received a $250 gift card to buy everything from Warriors gear, from jerseys to shoes.
Here is the video:
Steph Curry spoke about the philanthropic event with ABC7 News’ Chris Alvarez, where she said she was so happy to interact with the kids and give them a memory to last a lifetime. She also hopes to do similar things in the future, given her and the team’s association with Rakuten.
“Just being here and being in person and interacting with the kids like we all had moments growing up, whether it was someone hanging out for a little bit or giving a word of encouragement or something that would stick with you,” Curry said. “Hopefully something like that happens through those interactions and you find amazing ways to do it.”
One of the lucky kids inside the Warriors store revealed to Sports Illustrated how it felt to meet Steph Curry.
“My heart stopped for a minute,” the boy said. “I was like, ‘Wow!’ I was in complete shock. It was just shocking to me.”

Steph Curry injury update
Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors has not played since suffering a left leg injury on February 4 against the Dallas Mavericks. Curry was later diagnosed with a partial tear of the superior tibiofibular ligaments and interosseous membrane. He also sustained a bruise to his lower left leg.
The Warriors had revealed last week that the four-time NBA champion was making good progress in his recovery. Curry has already started shooting and working on non-contact drills. He is expected to be reevaluated on Wednesday (March 1), and Golden State surely can’t wait for him to return.
The defending champs are progressing without Curry, especially after the All-Star break. They were eliminated by the LA Lakers early in the final stretch of the season, but have now won three straight games to move up to fifth in the Western Conference.
