The PGA Tour announced today that it has joined the National Council on Problems Gambling (NCPG) Leadership Circle.
The league also announced that it has renewed its Platinum membership with the national nonprofit organization that acts as a national advocate for reducing gambling-related harm.
Through Leadership Circle investment, NCPG supporting organizations ensure the viability of overall operations, sustainability, future growth and innovation.
Additionally, the PGA TOUR will launch a cross-platform marketing campaign in March in support of NCPG Problem Gambling Awareness Month.
It will bring lofty messages about problem gambling education and resources through a variety of brand channels and other media.
Scott Warfield, Vice President of Gaming for the PGA Tour, spoke about this historic new development.
“Properly preparing and educating our fan base about responsible gambling will always be a key focus of our PGA TOUR sports betting strategy. The National Council on Problem Gambling is committed to those same causes, and we are proud to join to your Circle of Leadership as we continue to promote the core values of responsible gambling.”
The PGA Tour joins other leading sports and betting organizations
The PGA Tour has joined several other leading sports and betting organizations in the Leadership Circle. The list includes prominent names such as the Official Betting Operators of the PGA Tour, FanDuel and DraftKings.
NCPG CEO Keith Whyte spoke about this:
“We are grateful for the PGA TOUR’s support and look forward to our continued partnership as we work to provide golf fans across the country with responsible gaming education.
“The broad reach of the PGA TOUR will increase public awareness of problem gambling and the availability of prevention, treatment and recovery services during Problem Gambling Awareness Month and throughout the year.”
The PGA Tour has recently made several industry-leading and progressive decisions regarding sports betting. This development is the latest to be added to the list.
Following the 2018 Supreme Court decision to strike down the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA), the league implemented strong integrity programs in collaboration with Genius Sports.
PASPA was designed in 1992 and was intended to stop sports betting in the United States. With this historic decision by SC, the decision on sports betting was left in the hands of each state.
The league recently announced a second partner, US Integrity, to assist in the ongoing monitoring of betting activity surrounding its competitions.
This new development is certainly a game changer for the tour which has been trying to build more popularity around its events and increase audience participation.
