Edmonton Oilers Trade Rumors: Montreal Canadiens’ defenseman discussed in trade talks

As the NHL trade deadline approaches, the Edmonton Oilers have been busy working on their phones and looking for solutions to strengthen their blue line for a playoff push. Following recent rumors, the Oilers are in talks with the Montreal Canadiens and Nashville Predators about possible trades.

And, among the other options, I’m told the Oilers and Canadiens continue to discuss a trade involving Joel Edmundson. twitter.com/darrendreger/s…

The Oilers’ main goal seems to be adding a solid defender to help bolster their defense. One name that has come up in the trade talks is Joel Edmundson of the Montreal Canadiens. Edmundson, who signed through next season on a $3.5 million salary cap, could be an affordable addition to the Oilers’ roster.

However, to acquire Edmundson, the Edmonton Oilers may have to give up something in return, with recent reports suggesting that Jesse Puljujärvi could be the player to return to Montreal. Puljujärvi, who has been with the Oilers since 2016, has been the subject of trade rumors for some time, and the Oilers might be looking to pass him on to a defenseman who can help them win now.

Montreal, which is currently undergoing reconstruction, could look at Puljujärvi as a recovery project to help them in the future. The young winger has shown flashes of brilliance in the past, and given the chance to develop in a new environment, he could recapture his form and become the player he once was discovered.

While nothing has been confirmed yet, it appears the Oilers are actively looking to add some depth to their defense ahead of the trade deadline. Only time will tell if a trade with Montreal or Nashville will come to fruition, but the Oilers are clearly focused on making moves to improve their chances of making the playoffs.

The Edmonton Oilers’ 2022-23 season so far

Sitting in fourth place in the Pacific Division with a 30-19-7 record and 67 points, the Edmonton Oilers have a great chance to make the playoffs for the 25th time in their history. They also lead the wild card standings, indicating a promising future for the team.

The Oilers owe much of their success to Connor McDavid, who has been instrumental in leading the team. He is currently the leading scorer in the NHL with an impressive 101 points in 56 games, with 42 goals and 59 assists. If he continues on this path, McDavid is expected to win his fifth Art Ross Trophy at the end of the season, cementing his status as one of the best players in the league.
