[WATCH] Lazy Michael Bracewell is run-out in embarrassing fashion by cheeky Ben Foakes in 2nd NZ vs ENG Test

New Zealand all-rounder Michael Bracewell wore himself out in rather embarrassing fashion on Day 4 of the second Test against England at Basin Reserve in Wellington on Monday 27 February.

In the 159th over of New Zealand’s second innings, Tom Blundell whipped England’s left-arm spinner Jack Leach to mid-wicket deep. The New Zealand batsmen returned for the third run. However, Bracewell was too casual in his effort to complete the third race. The left-handed batter did not attempt to drag the bat away from him.

After Ben Stokes chased the ball from half and took a shot, Ben Foakes initially pretended he wasn’t interested and then suddenly removed the bails to catch Bracewell off guard.

Although the New Zealand all-rounder had passed the crease, both his bat and foot were in the air. Bracewell started for 8 of 19 balls.

Kane Williamsom’s ton lift New Zealand before England counter-attack

Having had to follow up in Wellington, the New Zealand hosts resumed their second innings at 202/3. Kane Williamson, who was unbeaten in 25 overnight, made his 26th test tonne.

In the process, he also became New Zealand’s highest run accumulator in Test cricket, surpassing Ross Taylor (7683 runs). Playing in his 92nd Test, Williamson now has 7,787 runs to his name at an average of 53.33.

Earlier, the hosts lost overnight batsman Henry Nicholls for 29, who edged past Ollie Robinson to third slip. Williamson then featured in two crucial partnerships to lift the team.

The former captain added 75 for the fifth wicket with Daryl Mitchell (54 for 54). Williamson and Tom Blundell (90) then were involved in a 158-run sixth-wicket stand.

The brilliant partnership ended when Williamson was sacked by part-time pacer Harry Brook, caught by the side of his leg while trying to watch a delivery. The referee on the pitch did not raise his finger, but England went to check and replays confirmed that Williamson had missed the ball.

England’s left-arm spinner Jack Leach then raced through the New Zealand bottom order to complete a hard-fought five wicket haul. Leach dismissed Tim Southee (2), Matt Henry (0) and Blundell in quick succession as New Zealand were bowled out for 483.

With a target of 258, England were stuck at 48/1 after Southee bowled Zak Crawley for 24. At the end of the game, Ben Duckett was unbeaten on 23 and had nightwatchman Robinson on 1 for company.
