There was a time, not too long ago, when it seemed like Jill Duggar would be content to follow the path that her parents had set for her.
However, these days, the 31-year-old is a woman of her own.
Like her younger sister, Ginger, Jill has rebelled against her ultra-conservative upbringing in a number of interesting ways.
In some ways, Jill took her defiance even further, going so far as to cut off contact with Jim, Bob, and Michelle.
Jill doesn’t often speak out on the latest controversies surrounding her family, but earlier this week, she reminded us that she still isn’t living up to her parents’ expectations.
First, Jill posted the picture below, in which she can be seen hanging some musical notes painted on the wall.
“I am indecisive sometimes. … I changed out some decor and finally hung this Amazing Grace piece in a new spot,” she captioned the post.
The song featured is “Amazing Grace” and is a biblical look, but believe it or not, this photo is downright scandalous by Duggar standards.
That’s because Jill is wearing jeans which is a clear violation of the infamous Duggar dress code.
Not only that, this week also saw Jill announce plans to work outside the home, another no-no in the world of the Duggars.
Jill confirms that she is still a licensed midwife and hopes to return to the profession someday soon.
“I am not currently practicing, but I am able to keep my license ‘inactive’ in case I ever want to take it back or work again in the world of birth,” she wrote on Instagram
“Have you worked in the world of birth before?” Jill asked her followers.
(Or maybe watched too many episodes of Call the Midwife? Lots of laughs.)”
Yes, Jill is watching secular television too!
The show she’s referencing is a BBC period drama that takes a candid and compassionate look at women’s rights issues such as access to abortion.
You can be sure Jim Bob doesn’t approve of too much!
Of course, this isn’t the first time Jill has publicly renounced her parents’ belief system.
In 2020, she and Derrick famously blast Jim Bob for stopping him from controlling their own lives.
“The control we had to choose what jobs we were allowed to accept and even where we were allowed to live,” Jill said at the time, was taken away from us.
“The first few years of our marriage, we spent time and money working toward opportunities when we were told, ‘Well, you’re not allowed to do that,'” Derrick said.
Obviously, it was a frustrating experience for the young couple.
But these days, it seems Jill and Derrick are determined to live life on their own terms, no matter the cost!
