Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has faced criticism from former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Jerome Rothen for not resigning from his managerial role. The Reds have lost the ball in the Premier League this season.

Considered one of the title contenders before the start of the campaign, Klopp’s side have failed to live up to those expectations. They find themselves in eighth place in the league table with just 10 wins from 22 games.

Rothen has now claimed that Klopp should have resigned from his role and given the team a chance to rebuild on its own. He said:

“Jürgen Klopp should have done his self-criticism and let Liverpool rebuild without him. It’s a year too long for him.”

The German took charge of the Premier League giants in October 2015. He has been in charge for 413 games, 256 of which the Reds have won.

The Anfield club have won the Premier League title, the UEFA Champions League trophy and more under the tutelage of Jurgen Klopp. Therefore, despite the mediocre performances this season, his position as his coach has not come under serious criticism.

Rothen, however, has a different take on the matter. He believes that Klopp should no longer be the man in charge. In addition to their poor league position, the Reds have also been knocked out of the EFL Cup and FA Cup.

The Reds will be back in action soon when they take on Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg at Anfield tonight. Before the game, Henderson claimed that these are the events that the prestigious stadium lives for.

Henderson wrote in his show notes (via the club’s official website):

“It wasn’t that long ago that the fact that Liverpool and Real Madrid met so rarely outside of the European Cup finals was a bit curious. We now have a tie, which means we will have faced them six times. In five years, eight if we go back to 2014, and I have to be honest, it’s the kind of rivalry you could never have too much of.”

added:

“The results have gone more in their favor than in ours and, of course, this is something we want and must change if we want to go further in the Champions League this season. But no matter how big the challenge, and it never stops being very big when you take on Real Madrid, these are the games you live for as a player and as a fan.”

Real Madrid has an advantage over Liverpool in their last matches. They recently defeated the Merseyside club in the 2022 Champions League final.
