This past Sunday marked two years since Buckingham Palace confirmed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle officially stepped down from their roles as working members of the royal family.
“Working royal” may sound like an oxymoron, but it’s a term used to describe members of the Windsor clan who appear at royal engagements to toss coins at farmers, or whatever.
Harry and Meghan’s decision to step out of that life was slammed by critics who claimed the couple wanted all the benefits of royal life without the “work”.
Never mind that the Sussexes were actually taking on a more difficult existence in which they would have to fend for themselves financially.
When Harry and Meghan made good on their promise to support themselves without help from the Crown (the institution, not the Netflix show), they were also criticized for it.
And of course, when Harry published a memoir with the hopes of explaining the couple’s reasoning behind their decision, those same haters worked themselves furiously at the idea that these two were simply hungry for attention. .
some of these trolls actually Reading book, of course, which means they missed out on important revelations, such as the fact that King Charles never wanted Meghan to take on the role of a working royal in the first place.
in a widely overlooked way from ExcessiveCharles tells Harry that Meghan should probably continue acting, as there is no place for her on the royal payroll.
“Does she want to continue working?” Prince Harry recalls asking Charles.
“Does she want to continue acting?” asked the then future king.
“Oh. I mean, I don’t know. I wouldn’t think so. I would expect her to be with me, working, you know, which would be out Suit… since they film in Toronto,” replied Harry.
“Hmm. Well so. Well, dear boy, you know there ain’t enough money to go around,” Harry quoted Charles as saying.
“What was he talking about? He explained. Or tried to,” Harry continues.
“I can’t pay for anyone else,” Charles reportedly said. “‘I’m already paying for your brother and Catherine.'”
Of course, there have been no reports of Charles being equally hesitant about Kate Middleton, so this anecdote has been taken as further evidence that the king disliked Meghan from the start.
there are many theories for Why He was immediately contemptuous of his would-be daughter-in-law, and they are probably all equally valid.
These days, Charles has reportedly warmed to Meghan a bit, and insiders say he is quite looking forward to the Sussexes’ attendance at the coronation in May.
But Harry and Meg might not agree to the idea.
“Harry has been very clear and his position has not wavered – he is not going to come if he feels the atmosphere will be as toxic as it was during the Queen’s platinum jubilee and funeral,” a source close to the situation told mirror.
“He has said he wants to reconcile with his family and it is his call, but so far nothing has changed.”
Perhaps when they receive Charles’ invitation, Harry and Meghan should reply that they are unable to attend because they are too busy with work.
