Mumbai City FC lost to East Bengal FC 0-1 in their penultimate league game of the 2022-23 ISL season. It was also the 19th game of the season for East Bengal FC.

Mumbai City FC have had a fantastic season, winning the league shield and going unbeaten before stumbling to defeat in their previous game against Bengaluru FC. Mumbai City FC’s aim of securing 50 points for the season was dealt a heavy blow in their previous game.

East Bengal FC has had a poor season as per their expectations. Furthermore, they came into the game having lost their previous game 2-0 to Chennaiyin FC. They started the match placed 10th in the league table, and a win would drop them to 9th place.

The match started on an end-to-end note, with both sides starting the game with the intention of attacking. Bipin Singh had a couple of chances in the first ten minutes to give the hosts the lead. East Bengal had a couple of half chances of their own and they were unable to convert their chances either.

Kamaljit Singh made a fine save after Lallianzuala Chhangte’s shot from outside the box in the 31st minute.

The second half started with Mumbai City FC creating some good chances but failing to convert.

Naorem Mahesh Singh scored in the 52nd minute to give East Bengal FC the lead from Cleiton Silva’s pass.

Phurba Lachenpa (5.5): Phurba had an average game. He made four saves during the game. He also made some mistakes during the game.

Hardik Bhatt (5.5): Hardik had an average game today. He made six tackles during the game. He had a hard time countering Mahesh on the flanks.

Halen Nongdu (6): Halen gave a good account of himself during the match. He helped his men in attack and also managed to create a chance.

Murtada Waterfall (6): Fall had a good game defensively. He managed to control Cleiton and Jervis well and didn’t give them too much space. He also helped his people in the attack.

Vignesh Dakshinamurthy (5): Vignesh often found himself out of position during the game. Suhair hit him a couple of times. He was one of the weak links in the Mumbai defense today.

Rowlin Borges (6): Rowllin was busier in attack today and couldn’t help his team in defence. He created a few chances that the attackers couldn’t convert.

Ahmed Jahouh (6.5): He managed to control the game and create some good openings. His passing was a cause for concern for the East Bengal defence.

Alberto Noguera (5.5): Nougera created some chances in the opening moments of the game but the attackers didn’t take advantage of them. His presence continued to worry the Red and Gold defense.

Lallianzuala Changte (5.5): Chhangte had numerous chances to score today but was unable to take advantage of the opportunities that came his way. He troubled the East Bengal defense on multiple occasions and should have put his name on the scoresheet.

Ayush Chhikara (4.5): Chhikara missed a good opportunity in the opening minutes of the game after a cross from Bipin. He seemed out of sync with his teammates and needs time to fit in with the team.

Bipin Singh (5): Bipin could have made it 2-0 in the first ten minutes, but he couldn’t convert the chances that came his way. He was not in the best form of him during today’s match.

Gursimrat Gill (N/A): Gursimrat came on for Gill in the 90th minute. He did not play enough minutes for them to give him a grade.

Asif Khan (4.5): Asif came on for Bipin in the 73rd minute. He failed to impact the game in any way.

Gurkirat Singh (5): Gurkirat replaced Chhikara at half time. He gave the East Bengal defense problems but failed to convert the chances that came his way. He was also poor during set pieces.

PC Rohlupuia (N/A): Rohlupuia came on for Rowllin in the 90th minute. He failed to make an impact in the game against his former team.

Gyamar Nikum (5): Gyamar came on for Vignesh in the 82nd minute. He had a hard time on the pitch and couldn’t do anything noteworthy.
