Bayern Munich make stance clear on allowing Marcel Sabitzer to join Manchester United permanently

Bayern Munich are reportedly open to allowing Marcel Sabitzer to join Manchester United permanently. The 28-year-old joined the Red Devils on a non-purchase loan until the end of the season at the transfer deadline last month.

Sabitzer battled for playing time at Bayern before moving to Old Trafford. He made 24 appearances at the Allianz Arena but started only 11. The Austrian midfielder can look forward to a more prominent role at United. He joined as a direct replacement for Christian Eriksen, who will be sidelined until at least the end of April.

According to Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sports Germany, the Red Devils bosses have liked Sabitzer’s performances and physique so far. The midfielder has played three games and it has not been difficult for him to adapt to Premier League football.

Bayern are reportedly open to letting the Austrian leave permanently in the summer. They have their sights set on RB Leipzig’s Konrad Laimer as his replacement.

Sabitzer is enjoying the first part of his loan spell at Manchester United. He touched on his move to the Premier League, saying:

“It’s a loan right now, that’s all I can say. I like it here. I feel very good here. I like the team, I like the club, the atmosphere at Old Trafford. We’ll see what happens in the summer.”

He arrived at the Bavarians from Leipzig in 2021 for 15 million euros. However, he has failed to displace Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka in Julian Nagelsmann’s midfield. Sabitzer has made 54 appearances at the Allianz Arena, scoring twice and providing as many assists.

Sabitzer will not be available when Manchester United take on Barcelona in the UEFA Europa League first leg on Thursday (February 16). That’s because the Austrian received a booking in Bayern’s last UEFA Champions League group game against Inter Milan.

It was his third yellow card in European competition this season. Sabitzer’s suspension carries over to the Europa League, so he will sit out the Red Devils’ trip to the Camp Nou in midweek.

However, he will be available for the second leg at Old Trafford on Thursday (February 23). Sabitzer’s absence is a headache for Ten Hag, who also has Eriksen and Scott McTominay injured. Casemiro will be available despite the fact that he is currently suspended from domestic football.
