5 records that were broken on Day 1 of India vs Australia 2023 3rd Test

The India vs Australia 2023 Test series resumed today in Indore. After a long break, the two teams met at Holkar Cricket Stadium where the Australians took the lead late in the first day’s game.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first in Indore. However, the decision did not work out in India’s favour, as the home team made only 109 runs. Virat Kohli was the team’s top scorer with a 22-run hit.

Matthew Kuhnemann destroyed India’s batting line-up with his first five-wicket haul in Test cricket. He received excellent support from Nathan Lyon and Todd Murphy when the Australian bowlers wreaked havoc at Holkar Cricket Stadium.

Indian bowlers were unable to replicate Australia’s performance. Half a century after opener Usman Khawaja helped the visitors finish Day 1 of the third Test on 156/4. Australia will start Day 2 with a 47-run lead going into the first innings.

It was an eventful day in Indore, and here is a list of the five records that were broken during today’s game.

Courtesy of these three wickets, Lyon now holds the record for the highest wickets by an away spinner on Asian soil. He was previously held by Shane Warne with 127 wickets, but Lyon have now surpassed him with 129 hairs.
